ACCESS volunteers make a difference in Corktown

Saturday, May 17 marked an impressive day for Arab American communities in metro Detroit and across the country the 4th Annual National Arab American Service Day. In Dearborn, the day began at Lapeer Park, the site of Family Fun Day, with a rally that inspired the crowd to get out and make a difference. Over 150 volunteers then went on to sites in Dearborn and Detroit to serve their communities by planting gardens, cleaning up parks, painting benches, teaching children healthy habits and much more. service day 08

“This year’s Service Day embodies everything the National Network for Arab American Communities stands for. It truly brought together everyone in the community to build bridges and capacity that benefit all. It only makes the future brighter and better for everyone,” said Taleb Salhab, director of national outreach.

With volunteers gathered in 17 cities across the U.S., great strides were made in giving back to the community. This year saw the largest national turnout ever in Service Day history.
