Saturday, February 4 2012, from 10am - 3pm at the annual Shiver on the River

Something wonderful is happening! This Saturday, February 4, from 10am - 3pm at the annual Shiver on the River:
On this one day, the Belle Isle Aquarium will be open and it has 10 tanks filled with fish!!! 8 fresh water and 2 salt water. There is a 4 foot shark, a giant gourami in the first tank which housed "Gramps", a school of tilapia, a red-tailed catfish which was at one time the mascot, and the beginnings of a salt water reef filled with crabs, anemones, and colorful fish. Up to 60 volunteers have been cleaning and stocking these tanks for the past 4 weeks.
There is no charge. Please come and support this effort so that one day the Belle Isle Aquarium will be opened on a permanent basis.

Two years ago, Sean Mann started a city soccer league — in part to find something else to do with his neighbors beyond protesting billionaire Manuel "Matty" Moroun, owner of the Ambassador Bridge, in their southwest Detroit neighborhood.
The growth and success of the Detroit City Futbol League, which drew 1,000 spectators to some games on Belle Isle last summer, has led 31-year-old Mann and partners Dave Dwaihy, Todd Kropp, Ben Steffans and Alex Wright to buy the rights to form a semi-professional soccer team representing Detroit.
